visit northern cyprus |
In April 2003, the boarder was opened between the north and south of the island under the supervision of UN checkpoints. In 2008 both Cypriot and Turkish Authorities opened up the border to allow free movement throughout the island. Whether the charge of a day fee of approx 25Euro (more for longer stays) will be reintroduced to cross the boarder is not know at the time of writing. However, why not explore Cyprus’ most picturesque coastal harbour at Kyrenia (Girne, Kerynia in Greek) and beaches in the occupied north of the island.
Recommendation:
A day trip to the coastal picturesque town of Kyrenia is well recommended. A visit around the historic castle is both interesting and a must see visit. Again lunch or an evening meal around the harbour can be very romantic and the local shopping is also good to pick up local bargains. All shops take Turkish Lira and the Euro. However, the Turkish Lira is not accepted in the Southern Cyprus |
